A Few Delays and Changes

Guess what guys? I'm sick. I'm also in alot of pain. Don't worry. Nothing serious. But I'm working a lot of ours the rest of the week and my next days off will probably involve doctors appointments. So it looks like there's going to be some delays.

So next weeks article is going to be delayed till the week after. Sorry guys. And my Warm of Week over at Artslug will be delayed.  I don't know how many I'll be getting out this week now, so it might get carried over to next week. Joy...

On the bright side, I took down the Adult content warning! I looked into it some more and got some good advise. Basicly everyone is saying to "wait and see". Google believes in freedom of speech and I haven't done anything wrong. If I get a letter from google, then I will repost the marker. I'm not more mature then any of the other reviewer sites out there and will WARN PEOPLE WITH BIG RED CAPITAL LETTERS when something is even a little mature, because I'm incredibly paronoid. So I'm not going to worry about it right now. However, I have removed Adsense, since they have family friendly standards only.

Now if you excuse me, I need some more Ginger Ale...

Site gets mature rating warning. Sigh.

Okay, something little quick to tell you guys. So you see that little thing at the top, right? The one that says the site is teen to mature rated. Well, that's what i want it to stay as. And you guys know that i am almost obsesive in marking when a link or an article is not for kids or is extremely mature (even though kids should not be going to my site anyway)

However, because the of the topics i want to talk about, such as nudity in comics (not the sexual explicit kind. More of the renaissance painter kind), I've decided to just bite the bullet and make my site as Mature. Honestly, I wish I could write in the warning what it's mature for, but I can't. There will still be teen related things here, but I'm kinda already pushing googles standards with a few articles here. So, better safe then sorry, y'know?

There's also a chance ArtSlug will get the same treatment, since I'm planing to post more horror and mature art in the future, along side the lighthearted stuff. But I haven't decided exactly when that will happen.

Sorry for the inconvenience, guys.

No new article until tomorrow

Okay... so after having an exhausting day, I kinda facepalmed, realising that most of you don't watch my twitter or facebook yet. So you had no idea that I delayed that article today. Firstly, I'm really sorry I didn't post a message on the main page sooner. I'm trying not to post lots of tiny mesages involving hiatus' or delays on the different sites. Instead, you can check out my twitter and facebook for that.

Second, I'm really sorry the article was delayed. Today was an extremely busy and important day, and important week even, and I really didn't want to post something rushed. As cool as it would be, the sketch-log is not my main day job, just something I do for fun and to share my thoughts with all of you lovely people.

Wow this sounds depressing.

Okay, tune in tomorrow for this weeks article!

Pixies and Demons: Directors Cut

Pixies and Demons and Greg Land, oh my!

Note: If you're wondering what just happened to the title card... I was just going leave it as a simple drawing... and then I published it and realized "that looks terrible" . So I went back and fixed it. Lovely how I realized this AFTER I published this, huh? Oh well. On to the review!

Scheduling News

Okay, so i mentioned a few weeks ago that updates would be on Sunday. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to move that. I tried Sunday for a few weeks, but the way my work schedule is, plus family matters, the majority of my work gets done on the weekend. I absolutely hate doing things till last minute, so for sanity sake, and for the sake of getting quality pieces to you guys on time, I'm going to move updates to Tuesday.

That being Tuesday MORNING, not Tuesday 10-minutes-before-Wednesday. Y know, like a normal site.

Now, I'm just trying this out, so I may still move it to a different day if it Tuesday doesn't work out. Sorry that you guys will have to wait a few more days for the update, but I'd rather not show something I scrapped together at the last minute.

Which reminds me, I have successfully bought a new scanner! So thumbs crossed that it will work out better then the old one...Strike that. Lets hope it's far beyond "better" @_@

The Wardrobe, and Schedule updates (should have thought of this two weeks ago)

No, this is not the article I planned. Partly because life has once again decided to cause me trouble, including making me sick in bed today. And partly because, well... surprisingly... I'm rewriting it. There have been a lot of last minute changes all over the place that I think will make it stronger, but came way too late in the week. So ya, I actually do have the images and the article ready... But I want to rewrite it to fit the changes a bit smoother.

In fact, these last couple of weeks have shown me that I basically kicked myself with this schedule instead of just going on a break from the sketch-log because I still have a lot of work to do before the convention. So I'm going to go on a tiny hiatus, which I probably should have done weeks ago. Just until a week or so after the comic con, to get all my work done, finish rewriting the article AND polishing up the sites a bit!

BUT! There is still some good news. One: Art slug will still update! There already some new stuff there from earlier in the week. I've been drawing a lot of stuff getting ready for future articles and the con, and you'll be seeing some of it there! Here's a preview of something on the way!

Two: I also want to announce that  there is now a new section of the site: The Wardrobe. One of the "last minute changes" I mentioned is that instead of making the costume articles a "theme of the month" I'm turning them into an on and off series, where I won't just be looking at costumes, but several aspects of visual character design! Yep! I'm making this thing a lot bigger! So for now on, all articles related to character design, will be found in the wardrobe! Including the series i'll be starting after the hiatus!

So that's it for now. Since I'm going to be updating the site, there will be some minor changes going on. Don't freak out if suddenly the whole site turns bright pink due to my legendary html skills. But make sure to check out Art Slug and my facebook page to see what I'm up too! (I seriously need twitter) I'll back either the first or second week of may, with news from the con, new articles, and a whole bunch of other stuff!

Now if you excuse me... I need another cold pill. Geh.

Clothes Make the Hero (or Villain)-- Theme of the Month(s)

HAHA! Only a true genius would pull an April Fools gag AFTER April Fools is over with! Hahahaha... ha... uh. You're not buying it are you? Eh, at least wasn't attacked by pony's this time. OH WAIT--!

K, back to business. Guess what time it is! Its time for another THEME MONTH! Or months, rather.

Some of you may remember SUPER SEPTEMBER (and October) MONTH, where I talked about or reviewed different... well... super hero related things. And one of the things I didn't get to talk about in detail was Costumes!

Guess what I'm in the mood to do?

So, ya, I'm gonna jump on the "redesign" bandwagon over the next several weeks, redesigning certain Comic book costumes, while talking about certain aspects of costume design. Aesthetics versus functionality, sexism vs "you got it--flaunt it", classic vs. the overly used, etc.

But this time, I'm asking for help! I want your opinions on costumes, what character's costume sticks out in your mind? Good or bad. What do you think makes a memorable costume. Anything you want to say about costumes, I want to here it! Doesnt' have to be specificly Super Hero's or even comics books.

I can't guaranty that I will integrate everything I read into my articles, nor am I gonna promise what characters I'll be redesigning. It's a surprise ;)

Oh, and just to remind you guys, the sight will update every two weeks now, so the first redesign will be sometime between the 9th and 15th (along with the REAL title card)

Why I Love Comics

Blogspot won't let me make the
image bigger, so if you can't zoom in,

*Tunes of the Day: Cartoon Heroes by Aqua*

Holy crud! It's finally done! Yeesh, this was long. Largest strip I've done for the site (took 2 full sheets of my 17"x6" board) plus the largest amount of images and largest amount of times my computer decided to crap out at me at the last minute. So this is what I actually planned last week.

A few weeks ago I’ve was going through a bit rough state. Combination of creative block, my health (again) and just really not nice things going on. But it was all the sheer amount of stupid and jack-assery going on in the comic industry lately was the camel that broke the straw's back... you heard me.

Oh, don’t worry, I’m feeling better now. That’s why over dramatic comic is over dramatic. But, I was emotionally at the point where I wasn't sure if I wanted to draw comics anymore.

And then I picked up Animal man 7, The amazing Spider man 681, Glory 1, Venom 13.2 and the preview book for Avengers vs x-men, found out that X-23 is getting one more issue...

...and gave myself a good kick in the face for being so stupid (much harder then it looks)

I love comics.

I will always love comics.

Sure, it's easy to get worked up or caught up in something that seems little. But I go up on my soap box and write about all these things because I LOVE comics! I want the industry to be a better place, I don't want to see my childhood cartoon heros get turned into sluts, or see my childhood real-life heroes get wronged. Comics at their best and I want to show that best to other people!

So, since I badly needed to do something to cheer myself up, I'm going to completely rip off Bob Chipman's rip off of the Film Critic Hulks article (yes, i know i got the titles wrong in the strip, sorry) and just... list why I like comics. Just making the list put a good feeling back into me. Feel free to rip me off and make your own

SlugTrails: Lets Players and Gaming Fan Works

All right, I’ll admit it, this is coming completely last minute. Some things came up this week, and two articles I had planned next are taking a wee bit longer then planned. I even tried to do something really short, but it isn’t happening. So, another Slug Trails, yay!

Oh shoosh.

So, on with today’s topic: Games

I'm a little obsessed with video games. But I royally suck at them. I don’t have much talent for it, I don’t have the money to buy them. So to feed my obsession, I watch lets plays and walkthroughs. And I feed it even more with the many game related fan works. So I thought I’d share my obsession a little!

It should also be said that the majority of these are MATURE.

SlugTrails: Webcomics

Hellooo everyone! It's been a while since we've had one of these right? To those unfamiliar or have forgotton, SlugTrails is a segment where I post a bunch of links around a certain subject. It was planned as a way to post something when I didn't have time to post an article. It got dropped do to hiatusness, but now its back. And, considering what i've been working on lately, we're talking about WEBCOMICS!

Any innuendoes are completely unintentional. Really.

A message to Marvel about Gary Friedrich

Yeesh, I seem to be using my sites for Art news and political stuff more then actual product lately. Things are coming, soon, but there is something much more important that has captured my attention at the moment: Marvel vs Gary Friedrich.

I'll let you read the whole situation here: http://www.comicsbeat.com/2012/02/10/help-gary-friedrich-new-donation-site-set-up/ and just leave my own response to the issue:

Dear Marvel: this is sick, beyond recognition. Not only because you cheated a pioneer of the old days out of his only income, but that you actually thought you could get away with it, without anyone noticing. We're not stupid, Marvel. You have you're lovely money-making company because of creators like these, and fans like us. You have insulted us both.

Sincerely,

SOPA PROTEST CONTINUES

Didn't expect this to be my first post of the year but... for those that haven't been able to peek about the internet, Wikipedia and several other sites have blackout today in protest to SOPA and PIPA! (I can't because I suck at HTML and can't get the stupid widget to work)

If you haven't yet, I urge all of you to head to http://fightforthefuture.org/ or http://americancensorship.org/. You can read up on the acts, sign petitions and even talk to you're Senators about the bills.

This protest has been huge! The news is lighting up today about the protest and it's great to see some good coverage of the bill. Several supporters have already withdrawn support. Obama has already spoken out against the bill, and shelved it. But it hasn't been vetoed yet. In February, the bill is suppose to be back with a few edits applied.

Thanks to everyone who's been working so hard!
