Just checking in

Okay.

This is... honestly a journal to say hi. I've been offline from most stuff, as I've been trying to clean out my computer and have been failing miserably. Oh, and I've been writing and drawing. Nothing ready yet. After how my computer has been acting, I've been less inclined to stick more stuff on it. Like Photoshop. Oh crud. Photoshop. How I miss you.

Changes and new stuff are coming. Bare with me here as I continue to fight through technical difficulties

On the bright side: DOCTOR WHO 50TH ANIVERSARY! Will there be fanart here? Fudge ya! Eventually.

Sincerely,
Tegan Dumpleton

Halloween project is canceled. Probably.

I'm getting really sick of using this pic

Okay, so. Guess what? My computer has decided to crap out at me. Again. And I can figure out what the heck is happening this time. My video for Halloween will NOT save. And I won't be able to rewrite everything in time. Now, the little project was actually going to continue into November anyway, so if I manage to get things working, maaaaybe it'll happen. Or, maybe we'll have a Halloween in December thing. Or. Something. Guh.

This is why I hate machines...

If you get the reference, you get a cookie

So that means that my November plans I mentioned last time will continue as usual. I'll be posting the Con report and one or two extra things that have been on my mind. But other then that, November is my art month, so there's going to be a lot more content on Art Slug.

OH! And I WILL be posting some Halloween pictures later this week. Just wait till you see who I'm going as!

Going West! Top 5 Western Comics

*thick cowboy accent* Welcome to the SketchLog, y'all! I'm SlugLady28 and today, I'm looking at one of my favorite genre's, the oooooolllld weeeeest! So Saddle up and Yeepee ki yaa—cough! Hack! Cough! *end of terrible accent*

Ugh, note to self. Do not try that again.

Gunslingers, Saloons, and lassos! Black Hats vs White hats! showdowns at sundown & train robberies! Lone Rangers, Men with No Names! I flippen love westerns! (Even if some of the stuff in them are complete embellishments created by western shows, dime novels and popular movies... What?)

So here's my question...

Why aren't westerns more popular?

Oh, sure, I've heard the typical reasons: The spaceman went up and the cowboy died. And the only people who like westerns these days are old people.

Ya, I don't buy it. People still like westerns. You can see it in modern television. Anyone that grew up with north American TV knows cowboy stories. Whether it was an homage, reference, parody or inspiration, just about every American cartoon has at least one old west episode.

Most notably in those famous stand offs between the hero and the villain. Westerns are something we've all grown up with, even if we may not have realized it.

Beast Wars: Coming of the Fuzor's Part 2

Maybe Hollywood just hasn't figured out the right formula for a modern day western. Or maybe it's just not time yet. At this moment there are really aren't a lot of good modern day Westerns. And thanks to the absolute critical and financial failure of the Lone Ranger, it would take something AMAZING to start a Western fad right now.

Luckily, my area is comics and even if they aren't many movies, I've still have plenty of awesome Old West comics to feed my addiction. I've already talked and talked about All Star Western, the horror-themed-buddy-cop-Western with Jonah Hex and Amadeus Arkham, from DC comics, but what else is out there? Well today, I'm going to talk about my top five western comics!... Besides the one I just mentioned.

Warning: Some of these books are filled with gore and nudity, so NOT FOR KIDS!!

Site News!

Hey all. So, as you can see, life is still taking up a large amount of my time. Between cons, starting a full time job and dental surgery (fun!), I've moved around a lot of plans I've had.

For the Sketch Log, I will be posting the western themed review this week. Unfortunately, due to my plans for Halloween, I won't be able to get my Edmonton Expo report out until November. So what am I doing for Halloween. Well... You'll know soon.

And for Art Slug, well, you may have noticed that ArtSlug hasn't had much lovin' lately. I didn't have time to do a Halloween Art Challenge for October. Sadly, work has been keeping me from doing a lot of personal work, other then a few sketches or title cards. So November will be used to help me get back into my art groove. I'm going to be reworking the site to make it a little more easier to find stuff, clean out stuff I don't like, and post some of the new stuff I've been working on. Including MEH!, which I will also be working on during November.

Aaaand I just collected a whole catalogue of reference from another kind of expo. So you may be seeing an old character of mine slithering around the ArtSlug site fairly soon...

Animethon 20 report! (sort of!)

Hello everyone! After, what, over a month since, I am FINALLY posting my con report!

And by "report", i actually mean "slide show" because I didn't actually get to go the whole weekend. Friday was spent at my work's vendor table, which was super fun! Saturday was spent at only a few panels. And... then got massivily sick on Sunday and couldn't go. Oy.

Luckily, I got to be a photo bug!! So, photo dump ahoy!

Dear DC comics. I'm done.

Putting this out so fast, I didn't even make a new title card this time. Might stick one in later Warning: This one's kinda depressing at parts.

Little Delay Due to New Idea *update*

Yep! I know I said May, but something came up. Mainly, there's something I've been meaning to do with the site and my reviews, so instead of waiting ANOTHER month, I decided just to go ahead and do it. And I'm going to need a few more days at least, to do it. Will it be worth the wait? I have no idea. But I'm gonna try anyway!

But, tomorrow, Art Slug WILL update with a fairly large sketch dump. Mostly sketches of things I've been working on in the last few months, plus a few things before that.

Seeya!

Update June 11: So due to technical glitches and things going on in my life, the latests Sketch Log Post continues to be delayed. Sorry guys. I'll post it as soon as I can

Computer is kaputski. Time for another hiatus... UPDATE

When I use an image this old, it's not a good thing...

Welp. That's it. After 5 long years of trying to keep it working, my computer is finished. I had it checked out today and it's either pay a lot of money on an old piece of tech, that might not work, or get a new computer. Guess which choice I'm going with?

So, ya, until I get a new computer and transfer everything on, I'm going to be on the net sparingly. (aka, whenever I can steal a few moments on one of my relative's computers). It shouldn't be a long hiatus. Probably a week, but, I figure I'd give everyone a heads up, just in case something goes wrong... or I break another piece of tec.

Seeya,
 Tegan Dumpleton aka SlugLady28

Update Mar2/13- Did I say a week? Ha ha ha. Oh me and my expectations... Sigh. Looks like it's actually going to take longer then expected to get a new computer and transfer things over. So, don't expect anything for a while. I have no idea how long this was going to take. But as things progress, I will keep you updated and will try to work out something with a temporary computer.

Update April 27--Okay! It's been two months and I've got a new computer AND now all my files are transfered over. I've also been spending the last month or so trying to figure out how to work windows 8. But now, I have my programs back, my files back, I'm in my happy place, and I finally managed to figure out how to turn off the dang touch pad. New stuff will start up sometime in May, because I have multiple medical stuff to get out of the way in the next week. Because nothing says creative inspiration like getting a root canal!

...

Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

My Reaction to... Random Stuff

Lets get cynical!

What do you get when you cross a week of being nauseated, hacking and coughing, add a dash of Valentines day “I will be single forever” induced cynicism, eating WAY too much chocolate and add in a whole month of media and political stupidity?

You get another “My Reaction to” post!

Unlike the last few times where I give my reactions to one specific topic, this is going to be a bunch of little topics. Call it a preverbal spring cleaning of the most stupid stuff of things that made me slam my head against the table. Aaaand some things that gave me hope in humanity. instead of splitting it up into two separate articles, I decided just to do it all at once. Rip it off like a bandaid. Don’t expect everything to be intelligent talk. I have a lot of rage and fanism to get out. (Fanism. Is that even a word?) That said, Enjoy my pain!

Also SPOILERS AHOY!!

Happy "Wish I Had a Date" day

Valentines day. Yay. The day where I remember that I'm single and how thankful I am for netflix and discount chocolate.

Sorry, my cynicism is on high today.

I WAS hoping to have an article up for today, complete a very silly, very terrible Valentine's Day segway. But I was horribly sick for the last week, so instead of having one week to work something up, I had two days. So... ya. Didn't happen.

Ugh. Just something about this week has been making me think about the incredibly stupid things going on in the past year (I could be wrong, but it maaaaay have been the week I spent laying in bed unable to do anything but sleep and count ceiling tiles)

Come to thing about it, I never did do a best and worst of list for the past year. Hmmmm...

Alright! Next week, and in two weeks after that, join me as I go through an emotional spring cleaning. I'm going to talk about what things made me sing to the angels, and what things I wanted to light on fire with my super powered laser eyes...

...Uh, that part might be my current sugar induced high talking. Ya. Totally. Eheh.

Seeya soon!

JLA: A League of One Review

Sadly, Wonder Woman is not the Dragon Born

I'm back with from Christmas holiday with a review of an old favourite for a new year! And it's a Wonder Woman comic!

... Oh, come on, you should expect this by now...
