My Reaction to... Random Stuff

Lets get cynical!

What do you get when you cross a week of being nauseated, hacking and coughing, add a dash of Valentines day “I will be single forever” induced cynicism, eating WAY too much chocolate and add in a whole month of media and political stupidity?

You get another “My Reaction to” post!

Unlike the last few times where I give my reactions to one specific topic, this is going to be a bunch of little topics. Call it a preverbal spring cleaning of the most stupid stuff of things that made me slam my head against the table. Aaaand some things that gave me hope in humanity. instead of splitting it up into two separate articles, I decided just to do it all at once. Rip it off like a bandaid. Don’t expect everything to be intelligent talk. I have a lot of rage and fanism to get out. (Fanism. Is that even a word?) That said, Enjoy my pain!

Also SPOILERS AHOY!!

Pixies and Demons: Directors Cut

Pixies and Demons and Greg Land, oh my!

Note: If you're wondering what just happened to the title card... I was just going leave it as a simple drawing... and then I published it and realized "that looks terrible" . So I went back and fixed it. Lovely how I realized this AFTER I published this, huh? Oh well. On to the review!

Why I Love Comics

Blogspot won't let me make the
image bigger, so if you can't zoom in,

*Tunes of the Day: Cartoon Heroes by Aqua*

Holy crud! It's finally done! Yeesh, this was long. Largest strip I've done for the site (took 2 full sheets of my 17"x6" board) plus the largest amount of images and largest amount of times my computer decided to crap out at me at the last minute. So this is what I actually planned last week.

A few weeks ago I’ve was going through a bit rough state. Combination of creative block, my health (again) and just really not nice things going on. But it was all the sheer amount of stupid and jack-assery going on in the comic industry lately was the camel that broke the straw's back... you heard me.

Oh, don’t worry, I’m feeling better now. That’s why over dramatic comic is over dramatic. But, I was emotionally at the point where I wasn't sure if I wanted to draw comics anymore.

And then I picked up Animal man 7, The amazing Spider man 681, Glory 1, Venom 13.2 and the preview book for Avengers vs x-men, found out that X-23 is getting one more issue...

...and gave myself a good kick in the face for being so stupid (much harder then it looks)

I love comics.

I will always love comics.

Sure, it's easy to get worked up or caught up in something that seems little. But I go up on my soap box and write about all these things because I LOVE comics! I want the industry to be a better place, I don't want to see my childhood cartoon heros get turned into sluts, or see my childhood real-life heroes get wronged. Comics at their best and I want to show that best to other people!

So, since I badly needed to do something to cheer myself up, I'm going to completely rip off Bob Chipman's rip off of the Film Critic Hulks article (yes, i know i got the titles wrong in the strip, sorry) and just... list why I like comics. Just making the list put a good feeling back into me. Feel free to rip me off and make your own

A message to Marvel about Gary Friedrich

Yeesh, I seem to be using my sites for Art news and political stuff more then actual product lately. Things are coming, soon, but there is something much more important that has captured my attention at the moment: Marvel vs Gary Friedrich.

I'll let you read the whole situation here: http://www.comicsbeat.com/2012/02/10/help-gary-friedrich-new-donation-site-set-up/ and just leave my own response to the issue:

Dear Marvel: this is sick, beyond recognition. Not only because you cheated a pioneer of the old days out of his only income, but that you actually thought you could get away with it, without anyone noticing. We're not stupid, Marvel. You have you're lovely money-making company because of creators like these, and fans like us. You have insulted us both.

Sincerely,
 Tegan Dumpleton aka Sluglady 28

Monthly Comic’s Corner: October edition!

Monthly Comic’s Corner: October edition!

Sigh. Why do I even bother making a schedule? But never mind the self pity--- It’s time for me to take a look at the comic’s I bought in October! What comic’s from DC’s New 52 made it into my line up? How does Journey into Mystery and Spider Island conclude? And what the heck is with X-23’s star-palm? Plus, I take a look at a new-ish(?) series from Image comics!

SS/OM: Monthly Comics Corner: September part 2

SS/OM: Monthly Comics Corner: September part 2

Hey guys! Ready for round two?

Check out Part One here!

Right. I know. I'm about 2 hours late. Why was I so early with part one? Cause I totally forgot to add all the jump links to all the names and topics in part one. And there are so. Many. Links. It takes about two hours extra out of my time. And Wikipedia has now burned itself into my brain @_@ I’ll fix the first one tomorrow-er-today. Whatever. Oh and suddenly, Blog spot has suddenly changed a bunch of settings on me. Joy. (Links have now been added to part one! Plus, a little extra on Batgirl and Green Lantern!)

Now that my dignity has taken it's daily hit... On to the review!

SS/OM: Monthly Comics Corner: September part 1

Hey all! Well, Super September (and October) month is finally at an end. It’s been a long two months of capes, heroes, and yes, pants.

And with this being the end of the SSOM (Shh. I know I'm three days late. Don’t care. It’s still technically October to me.), the start of my MONTHLY COMIC REVIEWS. and the month of Halloween-- one of the greatest days ever... I did more then draw a costume this time:

Ta-DA! And yes, those are pants. No big deal. They’re just pants.

Anyway, Today, I will be reviewing all the comics I purchased that came out in September. I won’t be including Octobers comics because... this list is already longer then I planned. I bought many of DC’s NEW 52 and as much as I loved most of the comics I saw, I... just don’t have the money to keep it up. Which is a shame, because I was really torn on what comics to continue with, and I still am. The October review will be in the next week, so you’ll have to wait till then to see what I’ve picked.

(Edit: I apoligize for completley forgetting to add the links to all the names and events. I've fixed it now, plus some spelling/names issues, and i added a little more to Batgirl and Green Lantern)

BTW, this will be long, so I was forced to split it into two parts so you guys can have a break. (It came out to 23 pages when I finished O_o) Now, without further adieu:

SSM: Ways to help Wonder Woman: DC edition

Ways to help Wonder Woman: DC edition
My Lasso. Now.

So, after my last WW rant about the Wondy’s pants debate, and all the great feedback I got, I figure I should continue it with something... a little less ranty.

Now, I talk a lot about ways that WW keeps getting screwed around or how awesome she actually is. But I haven’t really talked much about ways to keep her from being screwed around or show how awesome she is.

And I also don’t want you guys to get the impression that I think DC always screws up Wonder Woman, or that she gets screwed over more then any other hero. There has been some great Wondy stories. The All New Wonder Woman, for the most part, was really good. Her time during the Blackest Night event was great and had a lot of respect for the character, Brave and the Bold is friggin awesome and Gail Simone dug Wondy out of one of a...a... I can’t think of a nerdy metaphor for “deep hole”. If anything, Hal Jordan has been put through a lot worse (See- Parallax)

But even now, DC is still making the same mistakes with her. Maybe because her books continue to not have good sales (last time I checked) And now that the reboot is here, to say I'm worried is... an understatement (Why does she get only one comic and Batman show up in like, 5 during the first month?!)

So here are a few ideas on how DC can help give the Amazon Princess a hand. Later on, there will be a fans edition! And a little disclaimer: Most of this information is based mostly on my own experience--- what I see in the bad comics and the good, and partly on my research of the character. And it can be applied to most of the super heroes out there.

List after the jump!
